“If it doesn’t matter
who wins or who loses,
why do they keep score?”
Vince Lombardi
I’m writing this blog post on Saturday evening, February 7th at 6:45 p.m. I document this fact so that, if by some random chance, my prediction for tomorrow’s Super Bowl game happens to be accurate, I will have evidence to share with anyone who might be interested.
Bold predictions are easy to make. Anyone can make one. Is there any particular reason for my prediction? No, not at all. I randomly selected these two numbers. Truth be told, I have no interest in, nor preference for, the eventual outcome of the game. Making a prediction, however, gives me one reason for paying attention to this national phenomenon.
Tomorrow’s game will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, a mere seven miles from my home in West San José. If I stand outside my front door, there’s a good chance I will see the U.S. military jets after they fly over the stadium at the conclusion of the singing of the National Anthem. I should also be able to see the fireworks display at the conclusion of the contest. To be honest, I have no plans to make an effort to see either of these things.
As legendary football coach and commentator John Madden once said, “At the end of the game, the team with the most points on the board is going to win the game.”
For me, tomorrow will be another “Sacred Sunday.”
